PREFACE
The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Statistics report presents selected data on
vital events and population characteristics for mothers, children, and youth in
Arkansas for the year 2001. These data are presented for the use of health planners
in Statewide Services, Public Health Regions, Shared Services, local public health
units, hospitals, and other public health professions, and for individuals desiring
general information about maternal and child health in Arkansas.
In 1999, we began to use the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Edition,
(ICD 10) to code cause of death. In the 1999 issue of this publication is an
overview of ICD 10 and the impact changing from ICD 9 to ICD 10 has on analysis
of causes of death over time. This discussion was provided by our statistician,
Dorene Harris.
