Collect,
analyze, and distribute data on diabetes.
The Arkansas
DCP, in conjunction with the Arkansas
Department of Health's Division of Health Statistics,
conducts the diabetes module of the Behavioral Risk Factor
Surveillance System yearly. This analysis of risk factors
provides a basis for the surveillance data collected.
The Arkansas DCP also compiled a map of certified diabetes
educators and American Diabetes Association (ADA) recognized
programs with data obtained from the National Certification
Board for Diabetes Educators and the ADA. The DCP plans
to expand the current surveillance system to monitor diabetes
risk factors and access to care specifically for African
American and Hispanic populations in Arkansas.

Establish
and maintain statewide diabetes coalition.
The
Arkansas DCP
maintains regular communications with coalition members
through meetings, subcommittee activities, newsletters,
and other mailings. The coalition guides and assists state
diabetes control activities using information from the
National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) and CDC's diabetes
flu/pneumococcal campaigns.

Develop
and promote public education awareness campaigns.
The
Arkansas DCP
actively distributes information from the NDEP and CDC's
diabetes flu/pneumococcal campaigns through partners.
The DCP has also collaborated with the Arkansas ADA to
develop local Diabetes councils and conduct educational
activities in the communities. |

Develop
outreach programs for minority populations.
Arkansas
has a large African American population,
especially in the Delta region, and a rapidly growing
Hispanic population. The DCP targets community interventions
and media campaigns to these populations. |
