Little
Rock - The
Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) reported in a Media
Alert yesterday that one suspect human case has been
identified in Sebastian County. A sample from the
suspect case is being sent to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) for confirmatory testing.
To
date, Arkansas has 20 confirmed cases of West Nile virus
in humans and 59 counties affected by the virus based on
testing of dead crows and blue jays. For a complete list

For the Week Ending October 26, 2002
The
Health Department reported one confirmed case of West
Nile fever in Pulaski County as a result of recent CDC
confirmatory testing. The CDC also reported that one
suspect case in Jefferson County tested negative for the
virus.
ADH
also reported four new suspect human cases, one each in
Bradley, Crittenden, Pulaski and Union counties. Samples
from suspect cases were sent to the CDC for confirmatory
testing.
The
Health Department is continuing to monitor the state for
mosquito-borne diseases and
has established a West Nile virus hotline to respond to
public inquiries. If
