Little Rock --The Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Health has issued a Request for Applications to select non-profit community-based organizations to carry out local tobacco prevention and education programs designed to meet the unique needs of their community in order to reduce the use of tobacco products. Priority will be given to applicants in areas identified as “targeted needs” areas. A targeted needs area is defined as areas with high tobacco use rates.
Applications are due by February 23, 2007. Local community coalitions are eligible to apply for funding using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Best Practices for Comprehensive Tobacco Control Programs . Community coalitions may include multiple counties or communities collaborating to form coalitions to address tobacco issues.
The anticipated funding period is July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. It is expected that the average award for capacity building projects will range from $25,000 to $35,000 and comprehensive programs will range from $35,000 to $75,000, however, funding levels and the number of projects funded will depend on the state's annual Master Tobacco Settlement payment.
