(Little
Rock)-----As part of its
investigation into cancer concerns in the Prairie Grove
community, the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) in
conjunction with the Arkansas Department of Environmental
Quality (ADEQ) tested soil samples from the Prairie Grove
Upper Elementary School.
Surface
and sub-surface soil samples were collected from the perimeter
of the Prairie Grove Upper Elementary School building, as well
as the playground area. The samples were analyzed for metals and pesticide
contaminants. Based
on sampling results, children are not being exposed to soil
contaminants from the school at levels that could cause
adverse health effects. (See the attached report for sampling results.)
All
information and sample results gathered by the Arkansas
Department of Health and the Arkansas Department of
Environmental Quality will be available at the Prairie Grove
Public Library for review by the public.
