Little Rock — The Arkansas Department of Health is reminding Arkansans that AIDS is one of the leading killers of African Americans nationwide. It is the number one cause of death for African American women ages 25-34 years. African Americans are usually slower to seek testing, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and progress from HIV diagnosis to AIDS much more quickly as a result.
The HIV Prevention Program and the Office of Minority Health and Disparities have collaborated to provide free HIV testing. This awareness event is in commemoration of Black HIV Awareness Day. There will be five testing locations set up throughout Arkansas.
