Governor Huckabee to Recognize Outstanding Achievements in Promoting Physical Activity

Little Rock—On Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at the State Capitol, Governor Mike Huckabee will recognize those individuals and organizations whose efforts have positively affected the health and fitness of Arkansans by presenting the 6th annual Governor's Leadership in Fitness Awards. The purpose of the Governor's Leadership in Fitness Awards is to recognize outstanding achievements in the name of physical activity promotion.

The 2001 Governor's Leadership in Fitness Awards winners are:

  • Physical Educator of the Year - Dotty Burrow, Nettleton School District, Jonesboro

  • School District of the Year - Ozark School District

  • Corporate Leadership - Yarnell Ice Cream Co., INC., Searcy

  • Leadership in Legislative Fitness - Representative Tracy Steele, NLR

  • Outstanding Leadership - Jane McMullin, Trinity Village, Pine Bluff

  • Government Agency Leadership - Southwest Health Unit, Little Rock

  • Leadership in Senior Fitness - Jim Culp, Springdale

  • Media Leadership - Arkansas Health & Living Magazine, Little Rock

  • Health, Fitness or Sports Club - Russellville Family Clinic, Russellville

The Governor's Leadership in Fitness Awards are sponsored each year by Baptist Health and the Arkansas Governor's Council on Fitness. The mission of the Arkansas Governor's Council on Fitness is to encourage the citizens of Arkansas to participate more actively in health and fitness activities that will help them live healthier, happier and more productive lives.
