Little Rock—The ABCCCP/BreastCare Program, administered by the Arkansas Department of Health, has granted $9446 to Pope County Health Unit. Funds will be used to assist the ABCCCP/BreastCare Program in educating, identifying and enrolling eligible women for services and providing navigation assistance. Eighty-four thousand dollars in federal grants was awarded to 20 community groups (community organizations, hospitals, local health departments, Hometown Health Improvement community coalitions, schools and churches) across the state.

Local activities will include:

Worksite education, pharmacy outreach, Pink Carnation Sunday, health fairs and education to local community groups. Target groups will be women 40 and above who are BreastCare eligible. Anyone interested in receiving information can contact the Pope County Health Unit at 479-968-6004.

"We plan to use these funds to educate, identify and enroll women into the BreastCare program. Our goal is to enroll more women in the early stages of cancer when more treatment options are available and survival rates are higher," said Debbie Rodgers, RN, Pope County Health Unit Administrator.
