Little Rock—The
ABCCCP/BreastCare Program,, administered by the Arkansas Department of Health, has granted $3,500 to
Arkansas Minority Health Commission. Funds will be used to assist the ABCCCP/BreastCare Program in educating, identifying and
enrolling eligible women for services and providing navigation assistance. Eighty-four thousand dollars in federal grants was
awarded to 20 community groups (community organizations, hospitals, local health departments, Hometown Health Improvement community
coalitions, schools and churches) across the state.
Local activities will include:
- Coordinating outreach programs with Garland County Health Unit
- Providing educational information on breast and cervical cancer
- Community Health Fair at Web Center, 127 Pleasant, Hot Springs, AR on June 1, 2002 at 10 a.m.
Our goal is that these community programs will serve to promote enrollment of women in Garland County in the BreastCare Program.
"We hope to increase the number of women enrolled in the program to identify the early stages of cancer when more treatment options
are available and survival rates are higher," says Angela Grimmett, Program Education Coordinator for the BreastCare Program.
