Immediate Release
October 27, 2009
Little Rock—The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Procurement and Grants Office has published a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled, “American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009: Communities Putting Prevention to Work.” Approximately $373 million will be available in fiscal year 2009 to fund thirty to forty awards. The purpose of this FOA is to create healthier communities through sustainable, proven, population-based approaches such as broad-based policy, systems, organizational and environmental changes in communities and schools.
The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) will be applying for funding from this announcement as a State Coordinated Small City/Rural Area applicant. We are accepting proposals from communities with populations under 500,000 to be one of the two communities that can be funded as pilot communities under this announcement. Each community must have an established community coalition and will be monitored for progress toward benchmarks, performance measures, and outcomes. For this FOA, ADH defines community coalition as: a formalized partnership of community stakeholders that represent diverse groups or organizations dedicated to work collaboratively toward the achievement of collective projects directed to facilitate a mutually shared vision and goals.
Summary information is provided to assist you in completing a brief proposal to the ADH Center for Local Public Health (CLPH) to be considered for selection as one of the pilot communities in this announcement. If your community is chosen, ADH staff will work with you to submit all information to meet the requirements in this FOA. Further information and the application are posted on the ADH website at
