Rabid Dog Reported in Hatfield |

| April 9, 2008 - Little Rock — A family’s pet dog, living on 4623 Hwy 71 North in Hatfield, Polk Co., has been confirmed rabid by the Oklahoma Department of Health this week. The dog became ill around April 1 or 2 and was aggressive and biting. |

Survey Will Help Identify Washington
County Health Needs |

| February 29, 2008 - Little Rock — Wouldn’t you want to know if your child were playing with matches near a can of gasoline? Well, Arkansans are—to varying degrees—playing with fire every day. Personal health behaviors and problems such as smoking cigarettes, not getting enough exercise, not eating enough servings of fruits and vegetables, and not having health insurance can lead to costly and unnecessary health problems and early death. This week, the Health Statistics Branch in the Arkansas Department of Health began work with local officials in our area to conduct a county adult health survey by telephone to determine the existence of these problems in our community. |

Influenza Deaths Reported |

| February 19, 2008 - Little Rock —The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) is reporting that three Arkansans have died so far this year from Influenza. In Arkansas over the last ten years, the numbers of deaths have been as high as thirty-six (36) in 2000, and as low as four (4) in 2001. Seven (7) people died in Arkansas from the flu last year. |

| February 13, 2008 - Little Rock — The Arkansas Department of Health is reminding Arkansans that AIDS is one of the leading killers of African Americans nationwide. It is the number one cause of death for African American women ages 25-34 years. African Americans are usually slower to seek testing, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and progress from HIV diagnosis to AIDS much more quickly as a result. |

Health Department Update on Tuberculosis and Hansen’s Disease in Northwest Arkansas |

| February 8, 2008 - The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) is receiving reports from concerned citizens about a possible outbreak of 300 plus cases of tuberculosis (TB) and an outbreak of Hansen’s Disease (leprosy) in Benton, Washington and Sebastian counties). There are no outbreaks of either disease in the state. |

Rabid Dog Reported in Ft. Smith |

| February 7, 2008 - A family’s pet dog, living in residential Fort Smith, has been confirmed rabid by the Arkansas Department of Health this week. The dog became ill around Jan. 31, and progressively declined until it was euthanized and submitted for rabies testing. Several people exposed to this dog will be undergoing a series of rabies vaccinations to prevent the development of the disease. |

Free Tetanus Shots Offered |

| February 7, 2008 - The Arkansas Department of Health will be offering free tetanus shots to anyone who needs one at a special clinic that has been set up at the Matthews Civic Center at 101 W Main in Atkins. The clinic will open at 9:00 a.m. today and will be open until 3:00 p.m. or until supplies of tetanus vaccine run out. |

No humans were exposed but unfortunately 2 dogs, both lacking current rabies vaccinations, were. Rabies is a virus that attacks the brain and spinal cord and is a fatal disease. |

Health Department Recruits Volunteers For Emergency Preparedness Program |
