What are the bacteriological water quality requirements for swim beaches in Arkansas?

No bathing shall be permitted in any swim beach when the total coliform organisms exceed 100 per 100 ml. in more than 20 per cent of the samples tested or if any sample contains more than 2400 total coliform per 100 ml.

When the fecal coliform density of any sample exceeds 100 per 100 ml daily samples are collected for two consecutive days to determine if a sanitary survey must be conducted.

A sanitary survey may be conducted to evaluate potential sources of contamination whenever the need is indicated by unsatisfactory sample results.

Are swim beaches permitted in Arkansas?
How is new construction handled?

Swim beaches are not permitted in Arkansas. Plans and specifications must be submitted for review and approval prior to construction of new swim beaches. The Rules and Regulations pertaining to Outdoor Bathing Places are available on request.
