Breastfeeding Lesson Plans
The following basic lesson plans can be used as six individual 30 minute group classes or any combination based on desired class content or length. These classes utilize educational resources and materials available to WIC participants in Arkansas.

Class # 1 - Breastfeeding Benefits 
Uses a game format, “Breastfeeding Treasures” to educate participants about breastfeeding benefits. Click here for lesson plan. (PDF)
Class # 2 - Thinking of Breastfeeding 
Uses a game format, “ Myths in a Jar” to facilitate a discussion of common breastfeeding myths. Click here for lesson plan. (PDF)
Class # 3 - Beginning Breastfeeding 
Covers optimal positioning, latch on, and other techniques for getting breastfeeding off to a good start. Click here for lesson plan. (PDF)
Class # 4 - The Early Weeks 
Covers what to expect during the early weeks of breastfeeding and how to keep it going. Click here for lesson plan. (PDF)
Class # 5 - Working or School and Breast Pumps 
Discusses how to combine breastfeeding with work, school or busy lives. Click here for lesson plan
Class # 6 - Breastfeeding Challenges 
Educates about common breastfeeding problems such as engorgement, mastitis, sore nipples, flat or inverted nipples, plugged ducts or yeast. Click here for lesson plan. (PDF)
 
Breastfeeding Education Activity Package for Grades K-12 A Practical Classroom Tool
This program was developed using a grant from the United States Public Health Service Bureau of Maternal and Infant Health. The guide contains information relevant to the entire K-12 age span as well as activities for each level. It is intended to help students develop a well-informed attitude toward breastfeeding while studying other content areas. The lessons are presented in an appealing, easy to use format.
