- The Department of Health and Human Services is issuing the following advisory for Women, Infants, Children program (WIC) food vendors across the state.
In an effort to address the immediate needs of WIC participants who have relocated to other states as a result of Hurricane Katrina, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is authorizing the state of Arkansas to accept valid food instruments for the states of Louisiana and Alabama through the end of September 2005.
If your store accepts an out-of-state food instrument (Louisiana and Alabama), please inform the participant that she/he must contact the WIC Office in Arkansas to get certified and receive new food instruments if she/he plans to remain in Arkansas after September 2005.
The participant should receive the specified brand infant formula and foods listed on their food instrument. These food instruments must also be used during the valid issue dates.
The issuing State agency (Louisiana or Alabama) is responsible for the cost of the food instrument. Deposit the food instrument in your bank and this amount will be charged against the issuing State (Louisiana or Alabama) bank account.
If WIC food vendors need further information, please contact the Vendor Liaison, WIC Central Office at 501-661-2472.
