March 21, 2002

Little Rock—The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) has posted a page to its Web site, www.healthyarkansas.com, for citizens of Prairie Grove to check on the latest developments in the ongoing investigation into possible cancer clusters. To access the Prairie Gove information, click on "Prairie Gove" in the scroll column in the center of the ADH home page. This will link directly to the Web page.

The Health Department and the  Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality are currently developing an environmental sampling plan to address citizen concerns regarding potential contaminant releases into the environment. When the plan has been finalized, sampling will begin. At this time, ADH is attempting to identify residents using private wells in the Prairie Grove area. ADH proposes to test some of the wells for contaminants of concern in the community. Please contact Sue Casteel, Environmental Epidemiologist, at (501) 661-2898 if you are interested in having your well tested. Final well selection for sampling will be based on well location in Prairie Grove, and on proximity to sites of concern to citizens.

The Health Department will continue to evaluate environmental and health data in the Prairie Grove community and will report findings to the residents of Prairie Grove when complete.
