Little Rock --Virtually every type of emergency vehicle currently in use in Arkansas today will be on display in this year’s Parade of Lights, according to David Taylor, Section Chief of Emergency Medical Services for the Arkansas Department of Health. The Parade of Lights will begin from its staging area at War Memorial Stadium on May 15th at 10:30 AM and proceed to the State Capitol. All vehicles wishing to participate should line up at 10:00 AM.
“We invite all of them—Ambulance Services, Fire Departments, Police Departments, Hazardous Materials vehicles, and First Responders,” Taylor said. “It’s a spectacular sight to see them lined up all the way down Capitol Avenue from the steps of the State Capitol.” A tour of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at Arkansas Department of Health, 4815 West Markham Street, will be offered for those wishing to view our new state of the art communications and operations facility. Tours will be from 8:30 AM till 9:45 AM the morning of May 15.
This year’s theme is “EMS: Your Life is Our Mission.” This slogan emphasizes that EMS truly strives to care for those individuals requesting our services. A ceremony will be held on the steps of the State Capitol following the parade of lights to honor the men and women who provide emergency services for the citizens of Arkansas.
The Arkansas Ambulance Association will introduce its fourth annual Stars of Life recipients. The Star of Life program is designed to recognize outstanding ambulance service employees and increase awareness of how valuable emergency medical services are to citizens around the state. This event is a highlight of National EMS Week.
Immediately following the ceremony a reception will be held from noon until 1:30 pm
at the Section of EMS & Trauma Systems, Freeway Medical Tower, 5800 West 10th St. Suite 800, Little Rock. All EMS providers are welcome.
