Little Rock --
The
Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) announces the
appointment of Robert Alvey as Risk Communications
Specialist for the agency’s Bioterrorism Preparedness
Team (BPT).
In
his new position, Alvey is charged with developing
communications materials, conducting awareness and
outreach campaigns, developing a statewide network of
risk communication representatives and working with the
media on behalf of the BPT. He is also assigned to the
ADH’s External Communications office as a public
information officer.
In
preparing for the position, Alvey has received risk and
crisis communications training from Harvard
University’s School of Public Health, the Federal
Emergency Management Agency and the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention.
Alvey
joined the ADH team in December of 2001 as Advertising
and Media Program Manager for the Tobacco Prevention and
Education Program; his duties included implementation of
the award-winning statewide Stamp Out Smoking campaign.
Previously, Alvey served for six years as Communications
Manager for the Arkansas Science and Technology
Authority, another state agency.
Alvey
has nearly a decade of service in the field of marketing
and public relations and was an award-winning
photographer, journalist and editor for the Arkansas
Gazette, as well as various other newspapers and trade
publications.
A
longtime member of the Rotary Club of West Little Rock,
the Public Relations Society of America and the
International Association of Business Communicators,
Alvey is a veteran and a graduate of Western Michigan
University. He
and his wife have lived in Arkansas since 1984.
