Little Rock -- A public program showcasing activities of Arkansas Department of Health’s (ADH) Hometown Health Improvement (HHI) community coalitions will feature the accomplishments of groups from around the state in a display of posters, tri-fold boards, brochures and pamphlets. Special exhibits will also provide information from ADH community health programs. The workshop is sponsored by the Assessment Initiative Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The event takes place Wednesday evening, June 3, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. in Little Rock at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Shackleford Road, and will offer the public an opportunity see how local communities are taking charge of health issues in their own areas. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend. The public event is part of an ADH Hometown Health workshop, titled “Essential Inclusion of Cultural Diversity in Community Health Assessment,” which takes place Wednesday and Thursday, June 3-4.
The all-day Thursday workshop is designed to support the Hometown Health Initiative’s coalition members and community partners statewide by providing current best practice information related to cultural diversity in community health assessment activities. The morning workshop session begins at 7:30 a.m. and lasts until 4:30 p.m. The workshop features a presentation by Mr. Michael Steele, President and CEO of Advantage Communications, Inc., a Little Rock-based advertising, marketing, and public relations agency specializing in multicultural outreach. He will speak on the importance of reaching diverse populations and will recommend methods to more effectively reach those segments of the population.
The afternoon session will feature David M. Fetterman, Ph.D, a Consulting Professor of Education and the Director of Evaluation, Career Development, and Alumni Relations at Stanford University, and also President and CEO of Fetterman & Associates, an international evaluation consulting firm. Dr. Fetterman’s presentation will focus on helping people help themselves through new and better ways to conduct evaluations of community programs.
